Good Hate

I don't think his early stuff is that bad - although listening to it now I can 'see' that it owes much more to Rodgers and Hammerstein than Lennon and McCartney - but good slash and burn music writing is a thing to be cherished and clearly Billy Joel is an inspiration
No career re-evaluations please! No false contrarian rehabilitations! He was terrible, he is terrible, he always will be terrible. Anodyne, sappy, superficial, derivative, fraudulently rebellious. Joel's famous song "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me"? Please. It never was rock 'n' roll. Billy Joel's music elevates self-aggrandizing self-pity and contempt for others into its own new and awful genre: "Mock-Rock."

Did I ever tell you about the time Billy Joel flipped me the bird...............?

This clip from the short-lived show hosted by Chip Monck (really) featuring billy during the Piano Man era (by far his least self pitying and resentful) showcases one of my faves 'Travelin' Prayer' (I'm not proud, but I've got history) and shows that he's also mock-bluegrass!

Whoever wrote that stupid quote doesn't know a damn thing about music or piano playing. That's a great clip of Billy Joel performing incredibly difficult arpeggios.

And, Piano Man was FULL of self pity and resentment.
