But this weekend, canvassing in multi-racial middle-class neighborhoods in Indianapolis, Dan and I saw just how big this election really is.
The white folks we talked to were as excited as us. I met a couple originally from South Carolina that looked like two members of Sara Palin's Army. They invited me in and just wanted to talk about BHO and how important it was to get him elected. Indiana looked do-able.
But it was the black folks who really greeted us with something special (and in one instance, a share of the previous night's Halloween haul). The joy and profound appreciation they expressed to us white-boys for our little efforts to get Barry a new job caught us off guard. I realized that something more than getting a good president is on the line for this country, for those folks and for us. I feel like I've actually done something good.
We can be one country. Yes we can.
