WASHINGTON -- The senior counselor to Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales submitted her resignation Friday, becoming the third high-ranking Justice Department aide to quit in the aftermath of the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.
The departure of Monica Goodling, 33, comes two weeks after she first refused to answer questions from Congress about the firings, invoking her 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination.
....
"It has been an honor to have served at the Justice Department for the past five years," Goodling wrote Gonzales, telling him of her resignation effective Saturday. "May God bless you richly as you continue your service to America," she added.
