I am a somewhat slow-to-get-moving kinda guy in the morning. So mornings I get up early, and sit in the GT12 Central basement studio drinking coffee, smoking, reading the New York Times and watching the MSNBC broadcast of Imus In The Morning. Don is a tired reactionary boob but his guests are good.
Lately the slowly re-habilitating catholic Prep School Bully/Prig Chris matthews has been a fave of mine. Chris clearly and blessedly forgets that he's being broadcast when he calls into the I-Man. And the Imus people forget that they have a tape delay button..... A month ago he railed about the administration getting us into "this bullshit war". Well, hearing 'bullshit' on my basic cable made my week, especially given the epithet's proximity to the words 'administration' and 'war'.
Today, though, your bleary-eyed correspondent was given the gifts of All Gifts from Chris. Speaking about Mayor Rudy's commonly-believed-to-be-fatal-to-a-Republican-primary-victory social left-iness Matthews railed against the naysayers. "I'm so sick of these southern guys with ranches" the Hardballer said.
"People are responding to Rudy's strength. If you grew up in a City, you expected and got, your mayor at all the four-alarm fires, all the catastrophes, and he was going to tell you how you were all going to get through it. These mayors didn't hide in their ranch and watch DVD's of what was going on. This is what people saw Rudy do on 9/11 and what they want, more than anything else, in a leader. I'm so sick of Southern guys with ranches running this country. I want a guy to run for President who doesn’t have a f**king — I’m sorry, a ranch. New York became safe under him and that's what people want ... [joking] just a tweak of fascism.
It's going to be a fucking great day.
He makes some interesting points too. With McCain's heroism fading Rudy may be the one guy on the Republican side who can sell the one thing that they all respond to: a tweak of Fascism.
