Still Happy

We wanted to get a little nostalgic.

Like the First Wednesday of last November we will be at a Tax seminar tomorrow. So GT12 takes time today to re-post some of our early November 2008 Campaign posts.

Historical Note: some of the posts include a snarky dig at one McCain campaign hack's claim that JonnyMac's work was responsible for the development of smart phones (don't ask me how).

Mr. Dan and I are knocking on doors in Indianapolis. We are in a heavy Obama area and focusing on Get Out The Vote. There is serious Obama-mania in this part of this red state.

Tomorrow

BHO, Jacksonville Florida, today

Tomorrow, you can turn the page on policies that have put the greed and irresponsibility of Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of folks on Main Street.

Tomorrow, you can choose policies that invest in our middle-class, create new jobs, and grow this economy so that everyone has a chance to succeed; from the CEO to the secretary and the janitor; from the factory owner to the men and women who work on its floor

Tomorrow, you can put an end to the politics that would divide a nation just to win an election; that tries to pit region against region, city against town, Republican against Democrat; that asks us to fear at a time when we need hope.
Tomorrow, at this defining moment in history, you can give this country the change we need.

Tuesday November 4

Obama 15, McCain 6

Dixville Notch NH Votes first and the results are promising.
This is the first time since 1968 that a Dem has won the Notch.

Things At The Core

A TPM Reader writes:

My grandmother voted today. She is 86 years old. A white woman born to hardscrabble cattle ranchers in the most desolate part of New Mexico. Our ancestry goes back through West and East Texas, through Tennessee, the Cumberland Gap, and Virginia. This side of the family rode in the Texas 2nd Cavalry during the Civil War. A dark reminder for me of my family's past, she still has receipts for slaves that our family owned. Her first husband was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, sacrificing his life like so many other young men. My mother was two months old at the time. My grandmother has voted Republican her entire life, but today she voted for Barack Obama.

Come On Up For The Rising

4.5 hours after going to bed, Iam up again, getting ready for an all-day Tax Seminar. So this is going to have to do as my election reflection until tomorrow...

How great is this?!

How great is this country?!

Pretty damn great, that's what.

The rally, btw, was run as well as anything I've evr seen in Chicago. Getting to and from the site was easier than going to Taste of Chicago.

Some notes:

- The last Republican Representative to the house from New England lost his seat last night. When I was growing up 'New England' was what we thought of when we thought of 'Republican'.

- Christianist Marylin Musgrave defeated in CO.

- Al Franken still not a Senator (yet) but his opponent hasn't won (yet)

- IN, where GT12 spent last weekend goes blue.

- BHO first Dem since LBJ to win Presidency with a majority of all votes cast

- The 60's are finally dead

Sent from Express News

NEW YORK - HBO has bought the U.S. rights to a behind-the-scenes documentary on Barack Obama's presidential campaign from actor Edward Norton's production company.

Filming will continue through the president-elect's inauguration, with the premiere expected sometime in the spring, the network said Friday. HBO reportedly paid at least $1 million to show the still-untitled film.

Today

WE are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

--- A Lincoln

For the first time in my life I see the America that I was raised to believe in.

I tell myself that this is not really enough, that he still has to be President, he still has to do the job. but right now my heart says that my country is saved and that the people of my country saved it by voting for this man.

We chose Wisdom over Reaction, Accomplishment over Aristocracy, The ethnicity that we are over the ethnicity that we were, What we need over what we know, Our dreams over our nightmares, United States over Red and Blue States.

How great are we?
