Habeas Non Corpus

In the last few days I have had several conversations with intelligent, concerned people who unlike me have a life and do more than obsess about politics.

I learned in those conversations that the death of the right of Habeas Corpus, a death brokered by John McCain, has not be noticed by normal people.

So let me do my part: Several weeks ago, after a 'show' of protest, John McCain backed down and allowed for the passing of a law which:

1. Allows anyone to be arrested under suspicion of providing support to (undefined) terrorists.

2. People arrested under this law DO NOT have the right to have a lawyer.

3. People arrested under this law may be detained in secret, without any acknowledgement of their whereabouts.

4. There is no requirement that any charges be filed in order to detain and maintain detention of these people.

5. This law will be in effect until we win the 'War On Terror'. Since Terror has been with us since time began, Terror will be with us until time ends. And so will this law.

6.
This law invalidates 9 of the 10 Amendments comprising the Bill of Rights

Your congress has passed this law.

This is why, regardless of your general leaning, vis-a-vis Dem or Rep, you must vote to give us split government. You must vote, at least this once, against any sitting Republican.

It is the lockstep Republican House and Senate that has abandoned their constitutional responsibilities to provide Checks and Balances.

By the way, this bill also allows us to waterboard. Which we no longer define as torture. Although Japanese practioners of waterboarding during WW II were jailed with twenty-five year sentences for Crimes Against Humanity.

John McCain also gave the nod to this.

There is no defense for this. It is our responsibilty to protect ourselves from our government.
