Bush touts declining teen drug use; reports vary

WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush is trumpeting progress in the battle against illicit drugs as his presidency nears an end, pointing to a trend of declining high school drug use and a shrinking supply of cocaine on the streets of America.

But there are troubling signs, too, including carefree attitudes among young people about marijuana and a shift to prescription medicine as a drug of choice. Independent anti-drug experts say that even with progress during the Bush years, it has been deeply mixed. Reports vary, and huge numbers of kids still use drugs.
